Shadow education secretary Liam Kerr slammed what he called the SNP’s “shameful neglect of Scottish schools”, which he said was “undermining the safety of pupils”. However, the party said the true number is likely to be higher as six of Scotland’s 32 councils did not respond. Responses to Freedom of Information requests by the Scottish Conservatives revealed that 1,062 Scottish schools are missing the potentially life-saving equipment – 40% of those across the country. More than 1,000 schools in Scotland do not have defibrillators, according to new “deeply alarming” figures.
